Glyoxal (GLY)

The simplest dialdehyde. High reactivity makes it a key intermediate for imidazoles, glyoxylic acid and textile finishing agents.

Key Properties

• Smallest dialdehyde, with high reactivity
• Soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, ether and aromatic solvents
• Polymerizes readily in air; depolymerizes to monomer on heating
• Low-acidity grade suited to fine chemical synthesis

Applications

• Synthesis of imidazole, 2-methylimidazole and glyoxylic acid
• Textile finishing agents (easy-care, wrinkle-resistant) and iron-free resins
• Papermaking auxiliaries and surface sizing agents
• Intermediate for pharmaceuticals, fragrances, coatings and adhesives
• Household chemical and detergent formulations

Packaging & Storage

Packaging: 1250 kg IBC or 250 kg plastic drum.

Storage: Warehouse temperature below 30 °C; keep sealed and away from light, oxidizers and alkalis. Avoid prolonged air contact which causes polymerization.

Handling & Safety

Irritant and sensitizer. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation; prohibit open flames and spark-generating tools.
